CEREC® Same-Day Dental Crowns in Austin, TX
Traditional dental crowns typically require at least two appointments; one to prep the tooth and take impressions, and one to remove the temporary crown and place the new, permanent dental crown. With CEREC same-day dental crown technology, however, patients can have their restorations designed, created, and placed in one convenient morning or afternoon!

How are same-day dental crowns made?
Same-day dental crowns are created using CEREC technology, which stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. The process begins with a dental professional taking digital scans of the tooth using 3D imaging. These images are used to design the crown on a computer. The design is then sent to an in-office milling machine that carves the crown out of a ceramic block. After about 20 minutes, the crown is ready to be placed, all in a single visit!
Are CEREC dental crowns durable?
Yes, CEREC dental crowns are highly durable. They are made from strong, high-quality ceramic that can withstand the forces of chewing and biting. Many patients find that CEREC crowns are as strong as traditional crowns, and they provide excellent functionality. While the specific durability of your crown can depend on individual factors like oral hygiene and bite pressure, with proper care, CEREC crowns are designed to last for many years, comparable to traditional crowns.
How long do CEREC dental crowns last?
CEREC dental crowns typically last between 10 to 15 years, similar to traditional crowns. With good oral hygiene practices, such as brushing, flossing, and regular dental check-ups, they can last even longer. However, factors like grinding or clenching teeth (bruxism), biting into hard foods, and overall dental care can affect their lifespan. The ceramic material used in CEREC crowns is strong and durable, but like any restoration, proper care is essential for maximizing their longevity.
